Keep animals away from wars

This is very bad to hear that war between human being is actually targeting the innocent animal for death. In the conflict between Sri-Lanka and LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ellam) most of the cattle farm in LTTE held area are  being bombed by Sri-Lanka Air force. They also bombed a convent named the holy cross convent located on paranthan mullaiththevu road, 600 meters away from paranthan junction Tuesday night around 10.30 p.m. a day before Christmas.

These innocent cows were no were involved in this useless conflict but I don’t understand how can man be so heartless targeting these innocent cows to win the conflicts. This is the one of the shameful act actually done by them. They cannot prove their bravery by killing these cows and doing such a terrible task. If they really want to prove their bravery and strength then ask them to give an open challenge to LTTE and fight with them openly. The government should have actually restricted or taken some steps towards it because by doing such a terrific thing they are actually destroying and disturbing balance in nature.

TamilNet correspondent who visited the site Wednesday morning witnessed that the attacked premises was marked with Red Cross on the roof. The nearby church also sustained to be damage. The Sri-Lanka Air Force deployed cluster munitions in the bombardment. Around 85 cows were killed in this attack. This indiscriminate bombardment has also targeted shops and other commercial establishment in paranthan and kumarapuram.

now, lets have a look at the site were bombardment took place,

Monkey abused turns violent on the trainer

Angry monkeys take revenge

Angry monkeys take revenge

The man in the china was abusing three monkeys to perform some tricks. This again provided an opportunity to look at how we treat animals.

The monkeys were forced to ride mini-bicycles and while doing that they were hit with a stick. Having tolerating enough of this cruelty, monkeys decided to take matters in to their own hands. Among the three of these monkeys one twisted his ears and pulled out his hair and bit his back. Then when trainer dropped the cane, the third monkey picked it up and started hitting him around the head with it until the stick broke.

In the earlier of this week, two people were injured by stones thrown to them by chimpanzee at Kolkata Zoo in India because the visitors were teasing those chimpanzees and throwing things at them.

The animals in china are treated badly for sometime. It is now hoped that police will investigate claim of animal cruelty and confiscate the monkey. In china, their have been plenty of media stores about animal being abused to make them perform. But it does not only happen in china, in countries like UK also animals are treated to make to perform in circuses. Though we don’t have bike-riding monkeys in UK circus but there are lions and tigers to perform, dogs riding on backs of horses, an elderly arthritic elephants and other animals. Despite the UK being heralded as a “nation of animal lovers”, this cruelty still continues around us.

Therefore, it is not all surprising to know when animal decide to hit back against the cruelty inflicted on them by humans. In fact, it is the bigger surprise that it doesn’t happen more often. We need to recognize that animals are not here for our amusement, to be made to perform in the markets of china or the big tops of UK circuses or caged at Zoos for us to intent look. All animals, human and non-humans share many things in common, emotion being one. In the book, the Emotional Lives of Animals says “lacking a shared language, emotions are perhaps our most effective means of cross-species communication.”

Stop!!!!! This heartless cruelty to those innocent dolphins

Every year Feroe, Denmark, the young boys of island go to the beach and kill this innocent animal. The Risso’s Dolphin is a playful animal that feels only curiosity towards human kind. But they kill all the dolphin that they are able to reach unmercifully. They actually do this to prove that they are no more kids and are grown up boys. This is the act of cruelty done to those dolphins that actually get close to those boys with the intention to play. I strongly believe that human kind is evoluted enough for us to tolerate such act or be participants of such cruelty.

Do something to stop this act of cruelty from a civilized country. While it may seem incredible but even today this custom continues in Denmark. For many people over there this act to life is unknown: a custom to show entering adulthood. This act is absolutely terrible. No one does anything to prevent this barbarism against an intelligent dolphin that approaches human out of friendliness.

What a shameful thing is this. A very sad scene, there is no worst beast than man!!!!!

The Central Zoo Authority (CZA) is an autonomous body of the Environment Ministry, entrusted with the mission of ensuring regulation and recognizing the Zoo in the country, in addition managing animal exchange programmes between two parks. The Indian Chapter of PETA, Anuradha Sawhney has complained about poor living condition of the captive animals at Lahore Zoo, which is one of the oldest Zoos in the world.

AWBI has asked TN government to seize the illegally transported camel

Animal welfare board of India asked the Tamil Nadu government to seize the camels that were illegally brought to state without any valid transport permission. The AWBI said that “All the camels that were brought to Tamil Nadu are without valid permission and without necessary health certificate as required under the Law of Transportation of Animals.” It was reported that 50-100 camels were brought in to Tamil Nadu and the same number were expected in other states also.

The board considered this as “cruelty” because camels are habituated to live in Rajasthan and is not a resident of peninsular states. Bringing them to the state like Tamil Nadu that is about 2,000 km away from its habitat causes a psychological stress to them, As climatic condition of Tamil Nadu is opposite of that of Rajasthan.

AWBI also suspected that camels were starved and were not given water, food and medicine as required during transportation according to the Animal Transportation rule, 2001. There are no trained butchers and slaughter house available in the peninsular region for the slaughter of camel under Slaughter House Rules.

Cruelty is inflicted on animals at the time of open road slaughter where they were bled to death. AWBI has requested that directions to be given to the divisional commissioners, Municipal Corporation, collectors, DGP and SP of all states to enforce relevant rules against it and therefore follow the same implemented.

BOLLYWOOD ACTRESS SHILPA SHETY DECIDED TO DO AN AD CAMPAIGN FOR PETA AGAINST CRUELTY TO ANIMALS IN CIRCUS

Shilpa Shetty says “Life of the animals cannot be imagined in the ring of the circus. Each day they have to perform some or other duty which is very unnatural to them. They have to leave only in cages which are in the size of their own bodies.”

Most of the people applaud when an 8,000-pound elephant stands on one leg and a tiger jumps through a fire ring. But very few think that how can these animals manage to perform such an unnatural tricks. Despite of attractive images projected by circus advertising, animals performing live show are very miserable. Animal never choose their time to be spent in such a pathetic manner. Making the use of fear, pain and hunger as a tool the handlers make them do what they never wanted to do so. They also make use of physical tool such as whips, tight collars, muzzles, electric prods, bullhooks are reminders that these animals are being forced to perform. When they do not perform they are confined to cages. They never get a proper veterinary care when they are sick.

By seeing all this cruelty towards animals in the ring of circus, Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty decided to do an ad campaign for PETA. The ad, which shows Shilpa dressed in a body-hugging tiger-striped bodysuit about to leap through a ring of fire, with the tagline “Beaten, lonely and Abused-Boycott the Circus”, has been released in 10 languages nationally and internationally.

The release of this ad also marks the anniversary of one of PETA’s landmark victories. On 10th march 2003, a lawsuit was filed by PETA against the Empire Circus where 10 tigers and 9 lions were confiscated from the circus in Mumbai and were placed in the rescue centre in Jaipur. Today these lions have lots of land to walk around, where they can stretch their legs and live a peaceful life than what they suffered in circus. Where they were released from the cages only for performing tricks.

PETA documented many shocking case of cruelty at the Empire Circus like elephant shackled by three legs, dogs kept in tiny cages, horses tied with short ropes and cockatoos confined o cages without a perch, forcing them to hold onto the sides and many more other things.

PETA TO DEMONSTRATE TO AVOID ITEM MADE OF ANIMAL SKIN IN GOA

PETA decided to hold demonstration in the state on Thursday December 11, appealing people to turn away from items made of animals’ skin during Christmas. PETA said demonstration to be held in capital city of Panaji opposite captain of ports department. This state has around 30 percent of Catholic population.

The demonstration will be held by activist wearing costumes of cow, rabbit and sheep and Christmas hats holding tag line written as “bring joy to our world too-don’t kill us for our skin!”

“PETA is encouraging Goa residents to buy synthetic and natural fibre materials and to turn away from the item made of animals’ skin.” PETA said buying leather directly contribute to the abuse of animals in abattoirs. Majority of cows, sheep, goats and pigs are raised and killed for their skin by which they suffer painful body mutilations, deficiency, physical abuse and cruel treatment during transport and slaughter.

PETA activist says animals on fur farms have very filthy environment. Fur farmers use very cheapest and cruelest killing methods just to get skin of animals for fur.

Wearing animal skins is no way spreading joy and goodwill of Christmas. Instead wearing out all stylish and comfortable natural fibre cloth can spread joy all over.

On one fine Sunday morning, around 60 Jains come together to celebrate “Varshidaan” the renunciation (Diksha) of 11 Jains. I saw the Gamdevi police of Mumbai fined four bullock cart owner for mistreating the animals used in the procession of Jain community. All the bullocks were forced to drag heavy metal carts, each loaded with 15-20 people.

Animal lover and local resident Chetan Bhende, who brought this incident to the notice of the Bombay Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA), said five of 20 bullocks were in such a pathetic condition that one can actually see their bones and know that they have not been fed properly for days. This kind of mistreating can actually leads to paralysis in bullocks, which will actually lands them at abattoirs where they are killed.

Following the complaint, BSPCA vigilance squad moved to the site and caught the four bullock cart owner and took them to GamDevi police station. They have also registered the case under section 11 (animal act) of the IPC and fined them Rs100 before they were let off.

Speaking to the Mumbai mirror, one of the owners of bullock cart said we use bullocks only for such procession and ceremonies but others use them regularly to drag heavy tempo and make them walk through long distance on tar roads. They said that we are not cruel to our bullocks. We feed them regularly. We spend Rs200 on their food each day. The weak bullocks for which we were fined were hiring from other owner for this ceremony. But since our families have been doing this work for generations, we also continue to do the same.

Ashok Agre of the SPCA vigilance squad said, though it’s only a Jain community that always talks about non-violence, Ahimsa. It is more common for Jains to use bullocks in such procession. In fact, they also use horses and elephant on certain occasions. But Nikesh Jain in response said that who was present in this procession that ended at the Jain temple at Kemps Corner, “We had come together to celebrate Varshidaan and inflicting cruelty to the bullocks was the last thing on our minds. Our community believes in peace. We do not even harm a small ant, then how would we consciously mistreat the bullocks? We pay these bullock owners whatever amount they ask for, without bargaining because we know that if we pay less, the owners will not feed the bullocks properly,”

I want Bombay Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) to ban the use of animals in such procession and occasion in order to avoid unnecessary cruelty to the bullocks. And also imposing of strict rules would be better measure to avoid cruelty to the bullocks.
